I
was very fortunate to have the opportunity to do an RHS level 2
Certificate in Horticulture at Merrist Wood College Guildford. I did this
course alongside the City and Guilds Certificate in Practical Gardening.
People may think this an unusual course of action for a fifty plus mother
of three children in their thirties! But for me the prospect was
irresistible! I am a keen gardener, and always have been through all the stages of my
life. Complete enjoyment!. Alan, my husband, and I make a good
team (so people say!). He does all the building in the garden, and I love plants!
During this time I met with Samantha and Steve, we became friends,
visited each others' gardens, talked about ‘life post course’, and
came up with the idea of applying to enter the Courtyard Garden category
at Chelsea! We were successful! We were thrilled and amazed that we were
awarded space to build a garden on our first attempt to enter this world
class show.
The garden title inspired us to form our team and call it 'Moving
Spaces'. The title ‘fitted’. We were moving on, hopefully to success and personal
fulfillment, and the opportunity to
create ‘beautiful spaces’. This description happened to be one of the
first things that Samantha said to me, when we first met, and I asked
her what she hoped to do after the course. So the title seems ‘right’.
