I
have such fond memories of the times I spent as a child with my
grandparents and Auntie and Uncle in their greenhouses and gardens,
sowing seeds, or digging up vegetables for Sunday lunch. These formative
times instilled a love for all aspects of gardening, which I have been
lucky enough to pursue further.
Having gained a senior floristry qualification in the mid 1990’s, I was
determined that given the opportunity I would love to expand those skills
gained and use them on a larger scale. Rather than creating designs from
individual flowers and foliage, I wanted to create ‘beautiful spaces’
using striking plants, shrubs and trees. In 2005 I began studying for the
RHS Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture.
Little did I know at the time, that starting my course would have such an
impact on my life through meeting Teresa and Steve, forming Moving Spaces, and
having our first collaborative design rewarded with one of only nine plots in
the ‘Courtyard Gardens’ category at the ‘greatest flower show in
the world’
Beautiful flowers and foliage give such pleasure; whether they are in the
form of a wonderful hand-tied bouquet given as a gift, or at the opposite
end of the spectrum in magnificent grounds surrounding a prestigious
stately home. I am very privileged to be a small part of the
horticultural world.
"A once in a life time opportunity." - Samantha Hawkins.
